Dear Horn Parents -
We recently received the following email from the president of the Weber PTA. Class sizes are such an important issue that impacts every student. Even though the Tuesday ICCSD meeting has already happened, it is still not too late for board members to hear your stance on class sizes during budgeting decisions.
From Jamie Beedle-Vakiner, Weber PTO President:
“The ICCSD School Board will be discussing budget cuts this Tuesday night at their monthly meeting, scheduled for 6:00 PM. The PTA would like to suggest that our Weber community contact the ICCSD school board members to let them know how much we value class size and hope that they will make decisions that keep our class sizes reasonable. Below are the email addresses for each board member.
Reasonable class size (less than 24 for K – 2nd, under 28 for 3rd – 6th) is the most important factor for our students and is crucial to student achievement. The choice to reinstate funding for different programs that have already been cut or currently face cuts will likely lead to increased class sizes. The loss of these programs will affect some students, but increased class sized will impact all students. Some of those programs facing cuts have people speaking for them, but there is no group advocating for keeping class sizes reasonable. Please consider sending our school board members an email or giving them a call before Tuesday evening to express your concern about your child’s class size.
Please feel free to contact any of the PTA board members if you have questions or would like more information.
Thank you from the Weber PTA for your time and effort!
Jamie Beedle-Vakiner, PTA President“
