Horn School Extra-Curricular Programs

Horn school sponsors several extra-curricular programs for students.  Additionally, there are several extra-curricular programs that not directly sponsored by Horn School or the PTO, but use Horn facilities or have involved Horn students over the years.  Here are a few programs that might be of interest for your student.  Watch for additional details to come home in your student’s backpack about these opportunities, or contact the Horn school office if you have additional questions.




Cub Scout Pack 206

Cub Scout Pack 206 consists primarily of Horn and Weber Elementary students. In the 2013-2014 academic year, the entire pack meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Melrose Avenue. Horn Elementary Band

Students can pick a band instrument to learn as early as 5th grade.  Instruments to choose from include: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion. Iowa City Girls Choir

Iowa City Girls Choir is a choir formed of 4th, 5th and 6th grade girls from throughout the Iowa City area.  The music teachers give the girls information about the required audition, which occurs early in the fall. Orchestra is offered to fourth, fifth and sixth graders.  It is taught by Mr. Gentzsch.  It includes one practice during the school day and one group practice after school at West High each week.  There are two scheduled performances per year.  Instrument choices include violin, viola, cello and bass.
